PROJECTS
Here are a few selected projects that W&S has. It covers clients from federal agencies, Caltrans, MTC, and local cities in areas of demand forecasting with Emme and Cube, traffic operations with HCS, Synchro, FREEVAL, video-based traffic data collections and traffic monitoring in read time and big data modeling.
California High-Speed Rail Network Modeling Services
W&S was selected as part of a project team to processes traffic data and develop a ridership and revenue model for the rail service for the California High-Speed Rail Authority (Authority) and Caltrans. In addition, W&S was responsible for the following tasks: Traffic Data Process, Multimodal Development Design Concept, Multimodal Modeling Network Development, Passenger Assignment Modeling and Analysis of Travel Demand Patterns and OD Demand Data (StreetLight Data) of the whole State of California region. The State of California model in Cube was used for exporting the data for the new model developed in Emme.
MTC ActivitySim Model Conversion to Emme
W&S was selected as part of a project team to develop an ActivitySim Travel Demand Model Conversion from Cube to Emme for Metropolitan Transportation Commission. W&S was responsible for converting truck model, airport model and internal and external model from Cube scripts into Emme and Python. W&S was responsible for the transit modeling and model result comparisons. W&S will continue to support MTC and the project team for coming task orders.
Alameda CTC On-Call Modeling Service
As part of a project team, W&S has been providing modeling-on-call services supporting Alameda CTC for various task items including level of services, model analysis and recently a comparison of StreetLight OD patterns and the Model OD patterns. W&S used Cube, Emme and QGIS for the study.
W&S was selected to install 28 traffic cameras using W&S mobile camera systems, setup video data processes for extracting traffic counts and speeds on a 24-hour basis and provide reports for the City of Clayton’s ADT Volume and Speed Survey as a complete package. In addition, W&S worked on obtaining necessary city encroachment permits for the project. The process followed the FHWA camera-related guideline and the ITE speed survey methodology.
Caltrans District 3 On-Call Services
W&S was selected as part of a team to provide data collecting, processing, and summarizing multimodal traffic data, notably associated with various sources and cloud computing platforms and dashboards; travel demand forecasting with Cube and VISSIM; traffic operation modeling and analysis with FREEVAL, Synchro and HCS software and traffic operation memos with Level-of-Service (LOS) analyses; and traffic simulation modeling; and preparing project reports. The corridors analyzed include I-5, I-80, SR 49, SR 32, SR 49, SR 51, SR 70 and SR 99.
CCTA/ATCA Decennial Model Update
As part of a project team, W&S has been providing the CCTA/ACTA decennial model update. W&S is responsible for the Data Collection Plan Technical Memorandum documenting a systematic data collection plan for the nine-county Bay Area, identifying existing data sources available to the project team to describe base year 2015 and 2019/2020 conditions for purposes of model calibration and validation. Sources shall include but may not be limited to the CMAs, Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), local transit agencies, and Caltrans.
Emme Modeling Training Courses
As a INRO business partner, W&S conducts INRO authorized training courses including Introduction to Emme for basic Emme operations, auto assignment and transit assignment. The clients are from cities of Shanghai, Beijing, and Nanjing planning institutes and universities in China.
Traffic Data Monitoring with AI Technology
As part of Nvidia Inception Program team, W&S has developed a set of Video AI Analytics technology system integration approachs called TransportBrain (TB) used for traffic data collection, signal controls, city street limit studies, traffic operation modeling services, and intelligent safety systems. The analytics technology can be either inside IP cameras or an edge and server. TB works with IP cameras to enable video cameras to alert safety risks and deliver valuable data for highway and urban infrastructure planning. TB could reach 95 percent detection accuracy of the monitoring objects. W&S has deployed many of them in various projects for estimating the vehicle critical gaps, travel speeds, and the special vehicles not in standard classifications.
